HCM asks for assistance with pothole repairs

Businesses have been requested to step in and help with the project.

The Hibiscus Coast Municipality hosted a business breakfast at the Margate Hotel last Friday to try to persuade businesses to contribute either financially or with construction material to see phase two of the pothole repair project through.

A presentation was made to all businesses which attended the breakfast, outlining the background of the project and how phase one had unfolded.

In her speech the mayor, Councillor Cynthia Mqwebu, said a lot had already been achieved through the first phase of this project.

“Not only did it entail repairing over 5 000 square kilometres of road, it also provided employment for over 60 people, sourced from the various wards of the municipality.

“With regard to phase two, the municipality intends to work closely with various stakeholders within our region, as well as provincial and national sector departments. These include all those who are directly and indirectly involved in road construction and related activities,” she said.

At the business meeting, Margate Construction and Dumakude pledged to partner with the municipality in phase two of the repairs. Other businesses invited the municipality to make a presentation at their businesses.

The municipality has also partnered with the Road Accident Fund, South African Civics Organisation (Sanco) and 3M.

“The municipality is happy with the response it obtained from the invited businesses and can confidently say the objective was achieved. There were tangible commitments made on the spot and interest was shown, which will be followed by further engagements,” said HCM spokesman, Simon April.
