Countdown to jazz festival begins

The two-day feast of jazz includes a special divas' concert.

JAZZ lovers from all walks of life will head for the South Coast to attend the ninth annual Ugu Jazz Arts and Culture Festival, at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Friday and Saturday night, June 26 and 27.

It kicks off on the Friday night with a special event this year, the ‘Jazz Divas’ concert at 6pm. It is an event not to be missed, featuring Sbongile Khumalo, ‘Heels over Head’, Judith Sephuma, Zama Jobe and Thandiswa, with Zakes Bantwini taking music lovers all the way through to midnight. Tickets for the diva evening are R200 and are on sale through Computicket.

The Ugu Jazz main event, on the Saturday, offers guests two stages, with jazz performances by Tunisian jazz legend Nabil Khemir, Jimmy Dludlu, Vusi Mahlasela, Lira, Ringo Madlingozi, Selaelo Selota, ‘The Soil’, Thandiswa Mazwai, Nomalanga, KwaZulu-Natal jazz clubs and the KZN Jazz Band on the main stage.

On the second stage will be performances by the likes of Zakes Bantwini, Beatenberg, Solomon Willy, Naima Kay, Kunle Ayo, Afro Soul Technical Image and DJ Syanda. Tickets for the main event cost R280 for general, R350 for Golden Circle and R900 for VIP, all available at Computicket.
