Ugu’s mysterious ‘Pandora’s box’
Ugu says the allegations are 'inaccurate and mischievous'.

HOW regularly does Ugu District Municipality check its cheque deposit box?
Last week a Port Shepstone resident told the Herald that he became concerned when he was informed he needed to pay for water. He had already done so by dropping a cheque in the box provided.
He went to the Ugu offices and was referred to three different people. They eventually went to the box and, bingo! There was his cheque, along with others dating back to 2014, he said.
Ugu’s spokesman France Zama, disputed that box was not checked regularly and he certainly denied that there were any cheques dating back to last year.
“The customer in question deposited the cheque at the end of April and there was a delay processing it do to due to technical glitches.”
He said the municipality apologised sincerely for the inconvenience caused to the customer.
