DEMONSTRATING that they are serious about money, Hibiscus Coast Municipality proudly introduced its new, highly qualified chief financial officer to the media on Tuesday this week.
Heralded as a seasoned financial expert, Nolubabalo Desiree Gqola has signed a five-year contract, subject to a one-year probationary period. She will take office on July 1.
Ms Gqola is currently doing a dissertation for her Master of Business Administration degree with the Management College of South Africa (MANCOSA).
She completed her BCom degree and BTech/Degree in Local Government at the Walter Sisulu University and University of South Africa respectively.
Since 2012, Ms Gqola has held a similar position at the Greater Kokstad municipality. She has also worked at eThekwini municipality and the Eastern Cape Municipal Support Services.
“The municipality would like to assure the public that the appointed candidate has gone through competency assessments as set out in the regulations, in accordance with the Local Government Municipal Systems Act 2000, Section 56 (Act No. 32 of 2000), that the candidate meets the relevant competency requirements. The necessary screening of the candidate was also conducted,” said HCM mayor Cynthia Mqwebu.
