WORK has finally started on the upgrading of Bay Road (also known as St Michael’s Beach Road).
More than R4 million will be used for the upgrade which is expected to be completed in five months.
Speaking at the sod turning last Thursday, Hibiscus Coast mayor Cynthia Mqwebu said the upgrade was part of the municipality’s Urban Road Rehabilitation Programme.
The scope of works includes: The full revamp of Bay Road, upgrading of parking areas, construction of sidewalks and improvement of street lighting.
The appointed contractors for the work are Margate and ADB Construction companies which were appointed through open tender process.
“I am pleased that this upgrade was approved as it will mean a lot to holidaymakers,” said mayor Mqwebu.
