Young golfer Simonè to play in US
The young Margate Country Club golfer is achieving her dreams.
AN aspiring – and talented – young golfer from Margate Country Club, Simonè Ferreira, is off to America, thanks to her community and the Mark McNulty Junior Foundation, which is based at San Lameer.
Simonè also receives plenty of support from her father, Petrus, who took her along to the recent SA Women’s Open held at San Lameer, to see what a day in the life of a touring pro is like. Petrus also promised Simoné that, if she worked hard and managed to qualify at the World Junior Golf Tournament in Bronkhorstspruit, then he would do his best to help her go overseas.
Unfortunately, Petrus is unemployed and the family has a limited budget. However, he remained positive and decided he would commit himself to fund-raising to help his daughter achieve her dreams. Simonè played her heart out and managed to secure an invitation to represent the South African golf team in the US Kids’ Golf Tournament at Pinehurst Golf Club in North Carolina, USA.
Thanks to the generosity of community members who supported fund-raising efforts and a generous Mark McNulty Junior Foundation sponsorship of R20 000 towards air fares for her and her father, as well as some golf shirts, Simonè will soon be travelling overseas to play in this event.
