Man gets 22-year sentence for raping teen

When the girl refused to engage in consensual sexual intercourse with him, he threatened her with a knife and raped her.

BONGANI Nkosingiphile Mhlongo (25) appeared in the Scottburgh Regional Court where he was convicted of rape and sentenced to an effective term of 22 years’ imprisonment.

The case was investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Alex Ngcobo of the Umzinto Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS).

In May this year a 15-year-old girl was returning home from a party  at Mistake Farm, Thafeni Ward, near Umzinto, when Mhlongo grabbed her from behind and dragged her into the bushes.

When the teen refused to engage in consensual sexual intercourse with him, he threatened her with a knife and raped her.
