HIBBERDENE Academy’s foundation phase grabbed everyone’s attention last week. They are not only cute, but smart and creative. Gr 1 pupil Thandolwethu Vankra was rewarded with a brand new, beautiful colouring book from class teacher Karen de Villiers, because she managed to fill her sticker card first. Mrs de Villiers said Thando loves colouring and sets a good example for her classmates.
Gr R and RR teacher Rita Swanepoel and intern teacher Anette Smit introduced a new way of motivating little pupils to be good helpers in class. Each week, a helpful and creative girl and boy will be chosen.
They will wear stickers labelled ‘Girl/Boy helper of the week’ so that the whole school knows that they are class monitors and assist teachers. Surprisingly, the pre-primary pupils think ‘outside of the box’ and recently designed amazing little cars made from recycled toilet rolls and plastic bottle lids.
