AS an extension to the natural science/technology curriculum, grade 5Z pupils recently held a ‘car rally’ competition to test the model cars they had made from recycled material. A variety of very interesting and colourful ‘models’ were made, each very uniquely designed and named. Pupils had to ensure that the wheels and axles worked well and that their cars could roll smoothly down a slope. A lot of work went into each car and the competition was fierce, with some of the future mechanics or electronic whizz-kids going to the extent of motorising their cars.
The music department has also produced some stunning projects this term. Pupils proved their DIY and musical skills by making their musical ‘instruments’, using recycled material such as boxes, cans and fishing line to make guitars, glasses and bottles for xylophones, and even modifying biscuit tins into drums.
Grade 6 teacher, Rani Govender is currently on sick leave. The school wishes her a speedy recovery and looks forward to her return in the new term. Maggie Smith is thanked for assisting in her class during her absence.
