CRESTON College was a hive of sporting activity when the college celebrated the opening of the new netball courts last Friday.
The brand new state-of-the-art, floodlit courts were officially opened by the governing body treasurer, Chantel Elliott.
Guest speaker Madri Botha, a former Protea netball player, addressed pupils and parents at the opening. She stated that it was a proud moment for Creston College as the college is taking the sport forward. She encouraged netball players to keep working and training in the sport.
Headmaster Phil Hawke said the college will allow Ugu representative teams to practise at the new courts. “Having these netball courts should help in the development of netball on the South Coast. These courts will be home for the sport on the South Coast,” said Mr Hawke.
Silindile Mhlamvu, department president of Ugu Netball, congratulated Creston College on promoting netball and also encouraged pupils to take up the sport. A goodie bag containing netballs was handed to the college from the Department of Sport and Recreation.
The college thanked all sponsors who made the courts possible. After the formalities were over, parents and guests were treated to three games played by a senior team, followed by Creston’s first team against U14 and Creston’s grade 2s playing each other.
