Salty water brings Coca-Cola plant to a halt
There is enough stock on hand and, should the need arise, stock from other plants will be brought in.
THE salty water content in the Ugu District has stopped production at Coca-Cola Fortune in Marburg.
Production was stopped last Saturday. This was confirmed by Nolundi Mzimba, the PAC manager at Port Elizabeth. “As much as we are not producing at the moment because water quality is not in line with standards required for production, that should not have a huge effect on the business at this point,” she said.
“We have enough stock on hand and, should we need more, stock from other plants will be brought to this region (Marburg),” said Ms Mzimba.
She added that their ‘days of cover’ (DOC) is sufficient to cover current demand.
“Although the bottled water days’ cover has dropped significantly, we have increased our days of cover on still bottled water in order to supply the local market.”
She added that production staff will be utilised to perform preventative maintenance in the plant.
