Salty water update: The water is now safe to drink

Anyone still receiving salty water is urged to contact Ugu at 039 688 5711.

THE South Coast’s water should now be safe to drink.

This was announced by Ugu District Municipality at a media briefing earlier today.

Those living between Southbroom and Hibberdene have been without fresh water for more than a week when the closure of the mouth of the Umzimkulu River mouth, coupled with severe drought, caused sea water to reach the pump station.

The municipality successfully breached the river mouth last Wednesday which has drastically imporoved the water quality.

Anyone still receiving salty water is urged to contact Ugu at 039 688 5711.
