CONGRATULATIONS to Izotsha Primary’s Chase Britz.
He was chosen as the junior winner for the ‘My Spar Superstar Competition’ which ran in Caxton Community Newspapers through KZN this year.
Schools submitted their star achievers to Caxton Community Newspapers every month and these pupils were featured in the My Spar Superstar pages. Winners are selected every quarter and they receive R250 Spar shopping vouchers. The Spar Superstar competition was not only limited to academic and sports achievers, but to those all-rounders who made a difference to their school.
These included the backstage helpers at the school play, the boy who supplied water after a big rugby game, a team mascot or any pupil who did something for the sake of raising awareness of or improving his/her school environment or experience.
Extracurricular activities such as ballet, polo, show jumping, dancing and karate were also welcome entries.
Chase was chosen as the quarterly winner and was put through to the final round, which he won. He received an iPad and a Spar hamper.
He is a grade seven pupil and a well balanced all-rounder faring well in both academic and sporting spheres.
He has excellent leadership skills and is well respected because of his exceptional organisational skills. Cricket is his favourite sport and he plays for the U13A team.
Chase has recently been selected for the Southern KwaZulu-Natal cricket team and is a member of a KZN development team for which he practises in Durban every Thursday afternoon. He plays U13A rugby, hockey and soccer as well and is a valued team member of each sport. His favourite hobby is bass fishing.
His role model is AB de Villiers who, in his opinion, is one of the best cricketers the world has seen.
He also looks up to Gary Teichmann for the great leadership skills displayed in rugby. Chase has been awarded a scholarship at Glenwood Boys High for 2016. Spar advertising manager Justin Harris said the aim of the competition was to take a holistic approach to school life and to find a pupil who is absolutely versatile. He said Chase was a prime example of that and no doubt that was the reason he was chosen as the primary school winner for the My Spar Superstar competition.
“It’s a good initiative and I’m so thankful to Spar for this amazing prize,” said Chase.
