‘Open season’ for holiday criminals
No arrests have been made in any of the cases.
THE ugly side of the South Coast has already shown itself, and it’s only a few days into a season which locals need to be a good one.
Although there is a December ‘buzz’, there have a number of crime-related incidents along the coast during the past few days – and these exclude the murder of a teenager in Trafalgar.
Police have, unsurprisingly, cautioned visitors and locals to be on high-alert during a time of year that has in the past been described as ‘silly season’.
* A couple were robbed at their home in Hibberdene this morning (17th) at about 2am.
They were awakened by a noise – and saw two men in their bedroom, who instructed them to cover themselves with blankets.
The men searched the house and then fled with various items.
* On Wednesday this week, a 62 year-old man and his wife were at home in Ramsgate when two men, armed with knives and a slasher, entered their farmhouse through an open back door.
They men threatened the couple, before fleeing with various items.
* In King Haakon Road in Oslo Beach, a woman spotted four men on her property, and overheard them planning to enter the house.
The men, who had a firearm, demanded entry, but fortunately for the woman, all the doors were locked and they were unable to do so.
The woman screamed and the men fled.
* Yesterday (16th) a man (49) was attacked while walking along Deepvale Road in Marburg at about 10pm.
He had been on his way home from work when he was approached by five men, who proceeded to assault him.
The men took a revolver, wallet, driver’s licence, cellphone and cash.
* A tuck shop owner in Msikaba Ward, Betania was attacked and robbed yesterday at about 8pm when three men entered his business premises.
The men demanded cash, and shot him in the thigh before fleeing. He was taken to hospital.
