Sewage reportedly spills onto Ramsgate beach

And holiday season is upon us.

SEWAGE spills have been happening at various places on the South Coast for some time, causing great concern.

Holidaymakers and Ramsgate residents say that they have had to deal with a sewage spillage onto Ramsgate beach this week, causing a huge inconvenience to those who want to make use of the beach.

People say they are very disappointed but not surprised with the way things have been going at Ugu, with the recent salt water problems and sewage spills in other places raising questions on the maintenance of the systems. However, the Ugu District Municipality has strongly refuted this claim, stating that there is no sewage spill.

Ugu spokesman France Zama said: “There is currently no sewage spillage at Ramsgate beach as has been alleged.”

He added that the Ugu technical services team had visited the site in question and confirmed that the pump station is fully functional and there has been no indication of any systems malfunction.
