Gauteng family robbed in Hibberdene

The intruders threatened to rape the woman.

A GAUTENG family on holiday in Hibberdene was robbed of cash and valuables at their holiday house in Miami Road, Hibberdene last night.

The 47-year-old man, his wife and mother were in the dining room when two men, armed with knives and a crowbar, confronted them.

“The husband was forced at knifepoint to lie on the floor. The intruders demanded firearms, which the man did not have,” said police spokesman Captain Vincent Pandarum.

They threatened to rape the man’s wife before helping themselves to two wallets containing a substantial sum of cash, cellphones, a number of items of gold jewellery, watches,  e-readers, a camera, meat and shoes.

“The holidaymakers were herded into the bathroom but could not be locked in as the intruders could not find the key. The robbers then fled with the stolen property,” said Captain Pandarum.

It is believed that the intruders gained entry by following the holidaymaker inside when he returned from having a smoke.

No arrests have been made as yet.
