Southport holidaymakers hit hard by thieves

A MAN (20) was stabbed in the left arm at a caravan park in Southport at midnight on Christmas.

The man woke up to find an intruder standing in his tent. “The intruder grabbed the man’s laptop and ran out. The camper then followed him and managed to grab him. However the thief turned around and stabbed the man in the left arm,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

On Christmas Eve, a woman (46) went to sleep in her tent in the same caravan park at 10.30pm. Lt-Col Wiid said that when she woke up the following morning, she found that some of her belongings had also been taken from the tent. She added that Southport police are investigating the cases.

Two separate burglaries were committed on Sunday at a self catering resort in Southport.

A man (36) and his family, asleep in their tent, were awoken by a noise at 2am. Lt-Col Wiid said they saw a shadow at the tent opening. The man shouted and saw someone running away.

“He tried to catch him, but the person disappeared into the bushes. He then went back to the tent and, upon checking, found a wallet, cellphones, cash and other items missing,” she explained.

On the same night, another man (54) also reported to police that his tent had been opened by someone during the night as he found the zipper undone the following morning and his cellphones missing.

Investigations are continuing.
