Yes, Ramsgate is still a Blue Flag beach
The spill has been described as 'minimal'.
RAMSGATE beach is still a Blue Flag beach despite various reports on social media that the much-loved holiday spot had lost its prestigious status due to a sewage spillage into the lagoon.
Last week Ugu District Municipality refuted claims that there was any spill into the Ramsgate lagoon, saying that its technicians had been in and out trying to locate the spillage and had failed to identify one.
The municipality later said that, on Sunday, there had been a sewer pipe break which had led to a sewage spill into the lagoon and that the pipe had been repaired on Monday. However the spill had had no effect on the beach. Ugu’s Environmental Health Services confirmed that the spillage had not been exposed to the lagoon to the extent of the beach losing its Blue Flag status.
Hibiscus Coast Municipality spokesman, Simon April, confirmed that Ramsgate beach still has its Blue Flag status and that claims that it was no longer a Blue Flag beach were false.
