Shots fired in domestic drama
After police tried in vain to convince the man to come out, a relative was brought from Umzumbe and asked to intervene.
A DOMESTIC dispute led a to 35-year-old man firing a weapon and then locking himself his house for several hours last night
The married coupe was sitting in their lounge in Qinabout, Gamalakhe, when a call came through on the woman’s phone.
“The husband enquired about the caller and an argument broke out. He allegedly took his firearm and fired two shots. He then threatened his wife who ran outside,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
He followed her, firing another shot. She managed to stop a passing police van and reported the matter.
Lt-Col Wiid said that the husband then locked himself in the house. Gamalakhe police officers, TRT members and POP members were called to the scene.
After police tried in vain to convince the man to come out, a relative was brought from Umzumbe and asked to intervene.
“She talked to him for a time and eventually he threw the gun out of a window and opened the door,” added Lt-Col Wiid.
He was arrested and detained. He will appear in Ramsgate court tomorrow on charges of attempted murder. No one was injured.
The gun will also be sent away for ballistic tests.
