New Year stabbings leave three dead
Police received several calls to stabbing incidents and robberies on New Year's Day.
FESTIVE season chaos has left three people dead and many others threatened at knifepoint and robbed on New Year’s Day.
Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, said the first incident occurred in Ngwemabala location, Gcilima near Southbroom. “Bhekuyise Welcome Xolo (41) was brought to the Gcilima Clinic after sustaining a stab wound to the chest. He died on arrival at the clinic,” said Capt Mfeka.
It is thought that Mr Xolo was stabbed by a 21-year-old man near a store in Ngwemabala. Police have arrested the man, who is due to appear in court soon. Margate SAPS is investigating a murder case.
In a separate incident, a 20-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in Gcilima. Sakhile Shusha was taken to Gcilima Clinic by family members but died on arrival.
Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder. He is due to appear in court soon.
A 26-year-old man was found lying on the side of the road in KwaNyuswa ward, Izingolweni last Friday. “When police arrived they found a large group of people around the body.
“Police were informed that the man had been stabbed in the forehead, chest and arm,” said Capt Mfeka. No arrests have been made and Izingolweni police are investigating.
A man from Gcilima was threatened with a knife near Mbambi High School last Friday. He was approached by a group of men who took his cellphone and cash. No arrests have yet been made and Margate police are investigating an aggravated robbery.
A young woman was attacked and robbed whilst walking in Wartski Drive, Margate last Friday.
“The 20-year-old was on the bridge when she was approached by a man who threatened her. He kicked and dragged her into the bushes where he took her cellphone and fled,” added Capt Mfeka.
No arrests have been made and Margate police are investigating.
