Fire engulfs vehicle on N2

The fire spread rapidly and completely destroyed the vehicle.

WHERE there’s smoke, there’s fire.

And in this case the driver of a bakkie and several of his employees were lucky to escape uninjured when their bakkie caught alight on the N2 near Port Shepstone on Tuesday this week.

Rob Mckenzie, spokesman for KZN Emergency Medical Services, said when the occupants of the vehicle saw smoke billowing out from behind it, the driver immediately stopped and everyone managed to exit the vehicle safely.

“The fire spread rapidly and completely destroyed the vehicle,” he added.

Firefighters from Ugu District Disaster Management Centre on the adjacent property saw the fire and responded to the incident.

“Paramedics from KZN EMS assisted the vehicle’s occupants and confirmed that they had not been injured,” he said.

The exact cause of the fire is not known.
