Mistaken identity leads to fatal shooting
It is suspected that the man was shot by his friend who had mistaken him for a security guard.
A SUSPECTED robber has died after he was apparently accidentally shot by his alleged partner in crime.
The bizarre incident occurred in King Haakon Road, Oslo Beach in the early hours of last Sunday.
According to police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, Lazer 911 security personnel were dispatched after a complaint was received about a noise outside the house.
“When the security officers arrived they heard shots being fired. The officers split up and circled the house. They found a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest,” she said.
The wounded man was wearing a black anorak which belonged to the resident and which had been hanging on the washing line. “It is suspected that he stole the jacket from the line and put it on. When the security guards, the man rand towards his partners who apparently did not recognise him due to the jacket he was wearing,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
No shots were fired by the security guards or by the resident of the house. Police now suspect that the man could have been shot by his partners in crime who had mistaken him for a security guard.
A murder docket was opened and is under investigation by Port Shepstone SAPS.
