Update: Arrest made in Sheppie beachfront attack

A man in Oslo Beach was attacked on the same night.

POLICE yesterday morning arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the attack on a couple at the Port Shepstone beachfront last Monday and a man in Oslo beach on the same evening.

In both cases the victims were attacked with bush knives and the woman was also raped. Warrant Office Richard PC Naicker from Port Shepstone SAPS received the breakthrough information.

“Constable Mzakwe Makana, Sergeant Mkhulu Fynn, Cst Bongani Hlophe, Cst Hle Hlongwa and Cst Nkosi Dlamini went to Mkholombe and arrested the man,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

According to reports the man was renting a room at the informal settlement. He will be detained by police and faces charges of attempted murder and rape. It is believed that the man is originally from Bizana in the Eastern Cape.

Investigation will also be done to establish whether he is sought for other crimes within the area.
