Hibberdene couple held at knifepoint
There were two separate break-ins last Saturday.
A HIBBERDENE couple escaped unharmed after they were held at knifepoint at their home in Canterbury Drive, Woodgrange-on-Sea, near Hibberdene last Saturday.
The couple was asleep when the intruders switched the bedroom lights on at about 4.30am, waking the husband.
“Three men entered their bedroom and demanded money at knifepoint,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. The men fled, taking items from the house.
Later that night, a 59-year old man living in Aubrey Road, Hibberdene was attacked.
“The man had taken medication and fallen asleep. When he woke up, he discovered that his hands were tied behind his back and his white Mahindra bakkie was missing, along with other items from his home,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
The man managed to free himself and walk to the Hibberdene police station to report the matter. It is believed that the culprits gained entry through an open door. No arrests have been made in either case.
“ Do not entice criminals to break in by leaving windows and doors open and valuables openly lying around,” advised Lt-Col Wiid.
