Bushbuck killed by dogs
The owner of the dogs fuelled the fire by demanding the carcass to eat!
LEISURE Bay residents were shocked last Monday by the violent and cruel death of a bushbuck in Shad Road.
A pit bull and another dog, apparently belonging to a Leisure Bay resident, ran down and caught the terrified adult ram.
The pit bull tore flesh from the terrified animal and would not let go, despite efforts by frantic neighbours. Eventually Dr Michelle Beukmann and Raymond Carlow managed to leash the pit bull.
The owner was traced and took his dogs back home. The buck died and the carcass was taken to Crag’s View Wildcare Centre.
Protection Services was called and arrived quickly. The dogs’ owner has been fined and warned that if his dogs are found roaming the streets again, they will be confiscated.
Concerned resident, Jenny Koen commented, “We all need to be responsible dog owners. Dogs must be securely enclosed on the property, or on leashes”. Apparently the owner of the dogs fuelled the fire by telling one of the witnesses “Give me back the carcass – to eat!”
