Swift arrest of murder suspects
The alleged murder weapon has also been recovered.
TWO murder suspects, aged 22 and 19 respectively, were arrested on Sunday morning after allegedly stabbing a man at a tavern in Convent Road, Park Rynie.
When the police arrived at the tavern, the victim had already been taken to hospital by private transport.
“Mbongeni Slangwe (27) was rushed to the GJ Crookes Hospital with a stab wound to the left side of his chest but he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on arrival,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.
Fast detective work from Detective Warrant Officer Yugen Moodley of the Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team resulted in the suspects being nabbed by Detective Constable Weidon Govender of the Task Team and Constable Preshan Ishwarlall of the Umzinto K9 Unit, all before the Scottburgh SAPS could receive an official complaint.
“The suspects’ vehicle was intercepted in the Umkomaas area,” said Capt Pandarum. The alleged murder weapon has also been recovered.
The case is being investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Alton Pakkies of the Scottburgh SAPS Detective Service.
