DON’T throw those empty water bottles away. An organisation created to help the thirsty, Water Shortage South Africa (WSSA), is collecting them to help people living in areas worst hit by one of the most severe droughts in decades, if not ever.
Better still, it would be most appreciated if you could fill the bottles with water, said Pennington’s Melanie Beach, who is a WSSA volunteer.
Bottles can be dropped off at the Southcoast Mall’s Entrance 1, near Game, from Thursday (today).
They will be collected on Saturday and distributed to those in need.
“We need empty bottles as we have people who are willing to give from boreholes, but we do not have containers. If you can help in any way, please do,” she said.
Those who donate water are urged to mark the water bottles with ‘D/W’ (indicating that the water is clean and for human consumption) or ‘T/W’ for tap, rain or tank water for sanitation or animal use.
