Police dog nips burglar(y) in the bud
Patrol dog Zeus followed the scent, tracked down the suspect and tackled him about 50 metres away in the yard.
SCOTTBURGH SAPS were alerted to a robbery in progress at a block of flats in Terrace Mews recently and police reservists deployed in the beachfront area, together with Constables Brandon Gates and Nqoba Doncabe of the Umzinto K9 Unit, responded immediately.
“When they arrived they noticed a trash bin beneath an open window and realised that was where the burglar would have entered the flat,” said KZN SAPS media centre corporate communication officer, Major Thulani Zwane.
The resident of the flat was surprised when police knocked at the door and informed him that he had just been burgled. Only then did he realise that his front sliding door and bedroom door were open and that his cellphone and wallet were missing.
“Police searched for the suspect. Constable Gates’s patrol dog, Zeus, followed the scent, tracked down the suspect and tackled him about 50 metres away in the yard,” said Major Zwane.
The suspect was arrested and detained and the cellphone and wallet recovered. The suspect appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week.
