Update: Wanted man rearrested in Sea Park

The fugitive has been on the run since 2014.

DEON Christoffel Marais, who evaded arrest for dealing in cocaine at OR Tambo in November 2014, has finally been nabbed.

He was rearrested in Sea Park after Southport police members received information from a community member that he was staying in St David Drive, Sea Park.

Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, police national spokesman, said Marais appeared in court on September 16 for trial and during the court proceedings he asked to go to the toilet, from where he escaped.

He appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday this week and the matter was postponed until February 17 for trial. Marais will remain in custody.

He is apparently a professional con man who has had many cases opened against him.
