Telugu teacher will be missed

Janakiamma Kistamurthy was involved in promoting language and culture in Port Shepstone.

THE Andhra Sabha community of Port Shepstone has lost a dedicated member, Janakiamma Kistamurthy (Janakie), of Albersville, who sadly died last Tuesday after being ill for just over a year.

She had a long association with the Port Shepstone and District Andhra Sabha, where she was involved in promoting language and culture. She taught Telugu at RA Engar, Port Shepstone Primary and Jai Hind Primary schools, from the inception of Eastern languages at schools. She was also a pre-school teacher.

“With regard to her contribution to the Andhra Sabha, she was a very strong member of the Ladies’ Wing, the Stree Sungam,” said Cookie Reddy.

“She also served as chairman of this group, which provides invaluable service to families in their times of bereavement at funerals and memorial services.

“She was also involved in earlier years in training children for the Annual Andhra Eistedfodd held in Durban. She is a great loss to the Andhra community,” said Mr Reddy.

Mrs Kistamurthy was also an incredible wife, mother and grandmother with an energetic, joyful personality and a heart of gold, who was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her. She leaves behind her loving husband Reggie, son Ugen, daughters Jacintha and Dheshnee, daughter-in-law Sushilla, son-in-law Jerome and grandsons Trilorchan, Tayin and Sahen.
