Valentine’s date car: What women really want

With February 14 around the corner, it's time to romance-up.

HOW important is the guy’s choice of vehicle when it comes to Valentine’s Day? Difficult to tell, perhaps.

We asked some South Coast women what their dream ‘Valentine’s Day’ date vehicle would be, no holds barred.

“What car, any car ever, or vehicle of any sort, would you like your date to arrive in?”

Herewith are some of their comments, freely given on condition of remaining anonymous.

(Guys could make use of some of the answers.)

* “Well, in a way it would depend on the person. If he usually drives an old van and suddenly arrives in Mercedes-Benz or BMW that would be great. Then off for a picnic somewhere.”

* “Anything fast. Really fast. The VW Golf 7 would be very nice, thank you. It’s very sporty but it must be red. Then I would like to be taken go-karting. Or on a boat cruise. No wait, rather the go-karting!”

* “Any car, as long as it has a full tank of petrol! And it must be clean.”

* “It’s all about the driver. So I would like nothing better than to go for a date being driven in an Isuzu bakkie.”

* “A Ferrari, yes please. It’s the hottest car ever. It would have to be red and I would need to wear clothing and shoes to match!”

* “I’m old-fashioned, so no muscle cars or anything like that. A horse-and-carriage would be wonderful.”

* “It must a red Opel Tigra, I don’t care what year or model. It’s my dream car, I have always seen myself at a ‘convertible chick’!”

* “No doubt about it, a grey Audi R8. It’s been my favourite car since I was a young girl and I still have a poster of it on my wall, although it has faded a bit!”

* “A Ferrari, obviously. And it must be red, obviously. I have never been in one but would love to go for a drive at high speed.”

* “The Porsche 911, a black one. It’s fast, sleek and sexy. Best car on the market, ever.”

* “I wouldn’t be too stressed as long as my date actually arrived. Okay, that’s a lie. Something that is fast, and low to the ground, although it might be even lower when I get in!”

* “A white Bentley. Friends of mine in Durban have one. It’s an amazing car.”

* “A Harley-Davidson with a sidecar would be rather exciting. The Harley must have the ‘tassly’ bits on the handlebars, please.”

* “Horse-and-carriage, like the whole Cinderella story, with the silver slippers and all. We would just have to get home before midnight in case my date turns into a pumpkin!”

And some of them asked me what mine would be… “Easy, as in the E-Z-GO, which in case you don’t know, is a golf cart!”
