Explore what Margate Scout group has to offer at open day in Uvongo

Scouting teaches young people to work in teams, solve problems, lead with confidence, and care for the world around them.

The 1st Margate Scout group will open its doors to the community for an open day at the hall in Uvongo on July 4. It will take place from 09:00 to 15:00.

Families will have the opportunity to see first-hand what Scouting offers young people: friendship, confidence, practical skills, outdoor adventure, and a sense of service.

Being involved in the community is an important facet of Scouts.

In a time when children are often pulled toward screens and isolated entertainment, Scouting offers something refreshingly real.

It gets young people outdoors. It teaches them to work in teams, solve problems, lead with confidence, and care for the world around them.

These are not just weekend activities; they are life skills. The 1st Margate Scout Group welcomes boys and girls across three age groups.

Meerkats, for ages five to six, are introduced to learning through play, friendship, curiosity, and local community awareness.

Cubs, for ages seven to 10, begin exploring the world through crafts, camps, teamwork, and discovery.

Scouts offers outdoor adventure.

Scouts, for ages 11 to 17, take on bigger challenges such as hiking, camping, abseiling, sailing, survival skills, and leadership.

Parents often ask where children can find positive friendships, meaningful challenges, and safe spaces to develop independence. The answer may be closer than they think.

Scouting has a long tradition of preparing young people for life, and the 1st Margate Scout Group is continuing that tradition right here on the South Coast.

Families are encouraged to come along, ask questions, meet the leaders, and experience Scouting in action.

For many children, this could be the start of something lasting: new friendships, new confidence, and a new sense of adventure.
