Sheppie cops arrested

The two officers face charges of corruption.

TWO policemen, a 47-year-old Warrant Officer and a 36-year-old Sergeant, both stationed at the Vehicle Identification Section in Port Shepstone, were arrested yesterday by officers of Port Shepstone Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Organised Crime Unit for corruption.

The corruption charge relates to a transaction where the two policemen accepted money and in exchange undertook not to oppose bail for an accused in a house breaking and theft case earlier this month.

“An amount of R5 000 was paid to the police officers,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The two officers appeared in Port Shepstone court yesterday and were released on R2 000 bail each.

The necessary internal departmental investigation will also be done.
