Born to be abandoned

The tiny baby was found wrapped in a blanket.

AS a violent storm was brewing, a gardener at a Scottburgh complex heard a faint cry coming from the bush outside the property.

He climbed over the fence to investigate and found a baby thought to be about two days old, wrapped in a new blanket.

The gardener gently picked up the tiny bundle, called a domestic worker and handed the baby over.

The domestic worker rushed to one of the home owners in the complex who called the police and paramedics.

“It was a huge shock and we were all very stressed,” said the home owner, who did not want to be identified.

“We were even more stressed when the police, who are just down the road, only arrived an hour later and the paramedics an hour after that.

“Thank goodness the gardener heard the baby crying as a huge storm was brewing. Who knows what would have happened if the poor little thing was caught in that?”

She added that nobody could condone a mother recklessly dumping her baby, no matter what the circumstances.

“But, if she had to, why not in a place where the baby would be found quickly? It was pure luck that we found this one in the nick of time.”

The baby was given oxygen by the paramedics and taken to GJ Crookes Hospital.
