SHEPPIE High athlete Alu Mbewana (U17 triple jump) earned a silver medal at the SA Youth Championships and jumped a phenomenal 14.33m, which is a new school record by 46 cms.
Athletes Mlungisi Mabaso (eighth in long jump 6.04m), Rayne Redinger (fifth in 400m heat 60.2 secs) and Caitlyn Schlehmeyer (11th in 2 000m steeplechase) were also selected for the KZN team. All four pupils are KZN champions in their respective events, namely Alu Mbewana (13.73m), Mlungisi Mabaso (6.03m), Rayne Redinger (58.8 – school record) and Caitlyn Schlehmeyer (8m 22.9 secs: new school record). Good performances from many athletes were also achieved at the KZN champs: Mlungisi Mabaso (second place, triple jump), Kathleen Goodhead (second, 2 000m steeplechase), Rayne Redinger (third, 100 and 200m), Jordan Frost (third, 300m hurdles) and Nicolette Schlehmeyer (third, steeplechase).
