WATCH: Ugu wastes water
The wastage has angered business owners and residents.
WATER has been spurting from a meter in Industrial Road, Marburg, for the past two months.
Raymond Nankoomar said he contacted Ugu District Municipality, got nothing but broken promises, so he approached the Herald for help.
Last week water started flowing onto Industrial Road from a pipe which had been leaking for more than two months. Last week potholes started to appear and Mr Nankoomar contacted Ugu once again.
He was given a reference number and two hours later he was sent a message stating that the water leak was resolved. Yesterday (Wednesday) water was still leaking and thousands of litres had been wasted.
Last Thursday the Herald went to Industrial Road and photographed an Ugu vehicle driving past. The driver was stopped and asked about the leak.
His reply was: “We are waiting for a water pump to fix the leak,” and he left.
A motorist driving past said Ugu simply doesn’t care. “We are suffering from a drought and it’s not the customers who are wasting water but Ugu themselves,” he said.
“On Friday Ugu technicians arrived and did some patching to the leak and left. They arrived again on Sunday, dug up the road and cordoned off whatever they had dug up and left. But water still leaks,” said Mr Nankoomar.
No response was immediately received from Ugu.
