Excitement over new Techno Hub
The project will add a welcome new dimension to the area.
PORT Shepstone’s much anticipated Techno Hub will be introduced this Thursday, June 30.
Teaming up to speak at the event will be KwaZulu-Natal provincial MECs for Economic Development, Sihle Zikalala, and Social Development, Weziwe Thusi and Hibiscus Coast municipality mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu.
The event will be held at the Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre.
The Hibiscus Coast is fortunate to have the first of four such hubs being developed in the province, adding a welcome new dimension to the area’s traditional rural economy. It will provide collaborative space for business and young entrepreneurs, stimulating growth and creating opportunities.
To achieve this the Port Shepstone Techno Hub has partnered with the provincial government and Hibiscus Coast Municipality.
“The provincial government has identified a need for technological innovation and collaboration in KwaZulu-Natal. The four Techno Hubs situated in key areas across the province will promote the economy, drive socio-economic development and increase competitiveness.
“It also presents an ideal opportunity to create jobs and attract investment,” explained Dr Clive Coetzee, general manager: Infrastructure Management and Economic Services at KZN Treasury.
The Port Shepstone Techno Hub, which is already in the construction phase, has been identified as an ideal location for a sports academy centre of excellence. It is expected that training, research and development in sporting facilities will be housed in the innovation cluster.
The pristine environment that is the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast is well known for its many tourist facilities and the Port Shepstone Techno Hub has already attracted an investor who is considering developing a hotel on the site.
There is another investor that will provide opportunities for upskilling people from the area in the hospitality and tourism sector. This will result in the Port Shepstone Techno Hub being recognised as a facility which delivers innovation to an industry that is a significant contributor to the local economy.
