Healthy debate at Youth Parliament
Although some said there was a poor turnout for the Youth Parliament, the debate was robust and meaningful.
ONLY ANC and DA youth league members pitched up for the recent Youth Parliament at the Gamalakhe FET College.
Organisers had expected to draw about 300 delegates in all, but a mere 100 representing the two parties’ youth wings attended.
Lack of communication from organisers and choice of venue were blamed.
The members from both parties were not impressed with the numbers, but they continued with the evening regardless.
There was healthy debate around several burning issues affecting the youth.
Matters became heated at one stage as a section refused to listen to someone who was speaking out of turn.
Hibiscus youth manager Phumlani Mzobe intervened and common sense prevailed.
DA youth delegate Bruce Mzindle said education was top of their priority list.
ANCYL’s Nokubonga Msomi said they wanted to concentrate on transformation and gender equality.
