Former MM ‘gated’ on full pay
The former Ezinqoleni MM is apparently being paid while sitting at home following the municipal merger.
SOME opposition councillors in the new combined Ray Nkonyeni Municipality are angry that the former Ezinqoleni municipal manager has apparently been sidelined, in spite of his good record.
At the municipality’s last meeting, IFP exco member Councillor Sifundo Jerome Ngwane asked where former MM Mandla Mabece was.
“I haven’t seen his name on the new organogram. I demand the change management committee (CMC) explains why.”
Other officials had already been allocated positions, but not Mr Mabece. He was apparently at home, on full pay.
Hibiscus Municipality’s Max Mbili was appointed as the new MM for Ray Nkonyeni.
Opposition councillors said that Ezinqoleni had achieved three consecutive clean audits with Mr Mabece at the helm.
Cllr Ngwane said it was rather absurd that under-performing heads of departments had been allocated positions, yet Mr Mabece had been left out in the cold.
“We need Mr Mabece’s knowledge and expertise. During his tenure at Ezinqoleni, he was able to differentiate between politics and administration which is something very rare and unique these days.”
Speaker Cllr Doctor Solomon Njoko said he could not comment as it was an internal issue.
Mr Mabece also did not want to comment.
