ST MARTIN de Porres School has been busy creating awareness to educate and inform people about the deaf during September, which is ‘Deaf Awareness Month’. Originating in Rome in 1958, the purpose of Deaf Awareness Month is to provide a united front which helps focus attention on the deaf, their accomplishments, skills and talents, as well as to promote their constitutional rights. Activities and events throughout September are aimed at encouraging deaf people of all ages to come together as a community, to educate and celebrate their uniqueness. Last Thursday, the school held a ‘Little Miss St Martin de Porres’ competition and according to the coordinator Kubashne Perumal the event would not have been possible without all the wonderful sponsors and organisers and the school is very grateful to everyone who generously donated.
