Lake Eland MTB ride to remember Burry Stander

THE Lake Eland Quattro Classic, powered by The Burry Stander Foundation, will take place this Sunday (October 2).

“For our future mountain bikers and all doing the 10km ride, there will be a ‘candy station’ en route, so don’t miss out,” said Mandie Stander.
“We have amazing prizes for our lucky draw, which includes two Cemair flights (return tickets), accommodation, cycling accessories, gift vouchers, a Titan 29’er mountain bike and loads more.”
The Burry Stander School Series prize-giving will take place after the race.
On line entries at www.roag.co.za will only close today (29th) at midnight. All pre-entries will have free entry to Lake Eland. For late entries, there will be a gate fee.
Proceeds will go to the Burry Stander Foundation, which assists local rural communities at the Burry Stander Bike Park with cycling clinics every Friday afternoon.
“Children walk from far to spend the afternoon cycling and interacting with others. The highlight of the day is that they have a meal and drinks before heading home. The numbers are growing weekly,” said Mandie Stander.

Riders are expected from around the country, and the race brings welcome ‘international eyes’ on the area, so it’s a good marketing opportunity.
It’s the only race entirely organised by family and friends in memory of Burry.
The Bike4Burry and Helmets4Burry initiatives have seen bicycles and helmets given to pupils in rural areas, at the same time providing education on road safety and cycling skills.
“Anyone who has a spare helmet is encouraged to donate it the Foundation and these will be given to commuters and school children,” said Mandie.
“I honestly believe that, with assistance, the Foundation can make a difference in people’s lives. Burry is still an inspiration.”
