Coaching for juniors at Uvongo Tennis Club
The juniors are excited about learning the sport.
THE revitalisation of junior tennis on the South Coast continues apace at the Uvongo Tennis Club.
The eight member group from Southcity School which features in the Friday afternoon sessions has been supplemented by a group of about 30 children on Saturday mornings arranged by school master and club member Ali Majova.
Many of the children, drawn largely from Ext 3 in Margate have not previously played the game.
The are provided with racquets and balls by the club professional coach, Julia Christiansen, and volunteers in the club.
For the children it’s been a series of wonderful outings as they relished the opportunities to develop and exercise their strokes under caring eyes.
Chairman Peter Digby and president Brian Danckwerts have been joined by club stalwarts Ralph Burls, Lynne Shell and Howard Osborne in assisting professional coach Julia Christiansen and her son Daniel.
Inevitably this promising project is incurring costs, and tennis fans of all ages who would like to assist are asked to get in touch with Peter at 082 8017818.
After two weeks of exciting tennis development the children will now break for their Michaelmas holiday.
