Hibiscus Primary is finally finished!

There's a new school in Margate and it caters for grades R to 7.

THERE was much excitement at Hibiscus Primary in Margate Extension 3 on Monday this week when the contractor officially handed over the school to the Department of Education.

The school is looking very smart despite a few teething problems earlier in the year. The project was implemented by Coega Development Corporation and the project value was about R29-million. The school caters for grades R to 7,  and employs an acting principal, 18 teachers, two general assistants and one admin clerk.

There are currently 487 pupils enrolled at the school, which can accommodate up to 1 200 pupils.

There are 21 classrooms, two multi-purpose rooms, one counselling room, one waiting room, principal’s office, deputy principal’s office, HOD offices, administration offices, staff room, a sick room and sports grounds and an interesting early childhood development centre with three classrooms and jungle gym.

Jaya Pillay, chief education specialist for infrastructure planning in Ugu District, said, “Having such a beautiful structure is only one part of the equation required to deliver quality teaching and learning,” said Mr Pillay.

He encouraged everyone from the principal and school governing body to parents and pupils to ensure that there is harmony and cooperation in the pursuit of delivering quality public education. He urged parents to register those children who have not yet been enrolled at a school for next year.
