New development agency CEO survives car crash

He escaped with minor internal injuries.

FORMER Ezinqoleni municipal manager Mandla Mabece has been injured in a car crash, just days before his official appointment as new CEO of the South Coast Development Agency.

Mr Mabece’s vehicle apparently struck two cows in Queenstown. He said considers himself lucky to have escaped with only minor internal injuries.

Had I been driving a smaller car, I would be history now, – Mandla Mabece.

Mr Mabece recently came under  the spotlight when councillors accused the change management committee (CMC) of sidelining him following the merger of  the Hibiscus Coast and Ezinqoleni municipalities.

The CMC appointed Max Mbili as municipal manager for the new formed Ray Nkonyeni municipality.

Councillors demanded to know why Mr Mabece’s name was not on the new organogram and, following pressure from political parties and reports in the media, the Ugu Executive Council resolved to appoint him as CEO.

Ugu spokesman, France Zama confirmed this, saying the decision was unanimously taken last Thursday.

“Mr Mabece brings with him a wealth of expertise  and his secondment is set to advance development and economic potential within the four local municipalities in the district through leveraging partnership and maximizing investments,” he said.
