Women urged to support each other
Having the right attitude can help determine everyone's future.
WOMEN were urged to unite and fight the scourge of women and child abuse at the launch of the first Women’s Empowerment Imbizo at San Lameer Resort Hotel and Spa last Sunday.
The event was hosted by Zomnotho community development, a local non-profit organisation for women, in partnership with Ugu district municipality’s special programmes department, under the theme, ‘Educate, Inform and Inspire Women’.
Speaking at the event, KZN MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube told the women that their abilities can only be realised by society if they supported each other.
“Women are still abused and undermined by our society regardless of their capabilities. We need women who will rally behind each other to ensure their visions can be realised”.
The MEC also said thousands of women were still being sexually and physically abused by those closest to them.
“We need to protect and shield each other. Break the silence and stop the violence, it starts with you,” said Ms Dube-Ncube.
Dr Nomsa Buso, a general practitioner, gave a talk on sexual hygiene and leading a healthy lifestyle while author of ‘Life beyond Disability’, Nolwazi Khuzwayo left women overwhelmed by her talk about different types of disabilities and how they can best cope and manage.
Gamalakhe’s very own founder of Zomnotho, Nqobile Cele said her vision was to promote women’s empowerment and their need to support each other.
“Having the right attitude can help determine everyone’s future.” said Ms Cele.
