Beach garden makes waves
Pumula's new seaside garden is turning heads.
PUMULA is setting the bar really high – this time with an eye-catching ‘beach garden’ in Park Avenue.
Kerry Massey is the creative brains behind this impressive project and, together with her team of helping hands, they have made it come alive with beach balls, fish, birds, sea sand and… a larger-than-life ‘not-so-Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini’.
You just have to love the summer vibe Pumula has created in the village – even the kerb stones are freshly painted.
When the Herald ran its series of the good, the bad and the nasty entrances to suburbs earlier this year, Pumula scored 10/10 for making theirs the best on the coast.
Hot on their heels was Southbroom, which was awarded a 9/10 for its grand entrance.

Kerry said they are utilising all the ‘dead’ spaces in Pumula and making them uniquely attractive. “We believe our neighbourhood is an extension of our homes and we have respect for our environment,” she said.
If you are not a Pumula resident, their latest project is worth making a special trip just to see. In fact, nowadays it’s not uncommon to see locals and visitors stopping to take photographs of the colourful and fun garden.
There is no slowing down this proactive and involved community, and residents can look forward to many exciting projects:
* A walk of knowledge. Large educational posters of fish, reptiles, birds and marine life will be erected all over the village encouraging residents to learn about the creatures that live in their environment. Some will be also displayed in a seated area.
* Pumula Crime Watch has printed an informative flyer listing all the important ‘numbers to know’. Grab your flyer at the Pumula Superette on Park Avenue. It’s a must to stick on your fridge in case of an emergency.
* A carols by candlelight service will be held at the park on Ninth Avenue on Sunday, December 18 at 4.30pm. Everyone is invited and please remember to please bring a plate of eats.
* Pumula is very proud to have 12 Egyptian geese living in the park and there are plans to set up a feeding spot for them.
* The season’s beach control is up and running with Quentin Young being the eyes and ears.
* Pumula’s calendars have sold like hot cakes. The one-page calendars are on sale for R20, with the 15 page calendar at R120.
