NO meeting has been scheduled by the municipality since last week’s article highlighting the urgent need to discuss the pressing issues faced at Margate beachfront.
However, Cllr Dave Watson said that there had been daily visits to Margate’s beachfront by the supervisors of both the Community Services and Community Safety departments.
He added there had been visible improvements at the beaches and surroundings.
“They have been sparkling clean and law enforcement officers have been seen on patrol. Contractors are repairing the whale deck and tidal pool and Christmas lights are being erected along the beachfront.”
He noted however that the toilets are still not acceptable, the manholes are dangerous and the pothole repair programme still has a long way to go.
The municipality is embarking on a Long Term Strategy Plan as per the recent council workshop in Richards Bay.
Cllr Watson said they need to have input from the Ward 2 community, and suggestions, proposals and demands for infrastructure and development planning in Ward 2 were welcomed.
The outcome will be a ward-based plan on which to base their capital planning over the next five years.
