Artist gives back to Child Welfare

The creative team breathed new life into the children's room.

CHILD Welfare, Port Shepstone children’s counselling playroom has been given a new look, thanks to talented artist Jeanne Fensham of Veldblom.

Jeanne said it was a fantastic project and thanked many other kind-hearted people such as Audrey and Frank Dannler, Cheryl Hadad, Jaunte Geldenhuys Venter, Wynand Redelinghuys, Jimmy Fourie and Robert Dudley and S&J Construction and Painters for making the project possible.

Whenever Jeanne got a gap she would spend time at Child Welfare doing what she does best – being creative. Her friend, Audrey, helped paint the walls with chalk paint so the children can draw with chalk on the walls. Her partner, Robert, helped with financial donations.

The complete room is colourful and fun, with illustrations such as fairies, monkeys in a tree, butterflies, flowers, balloons, fish and motor cars beautifully bringing the walls to life.

“It was so rewarding to the see the excited faces of the children when they saw the newly painted room,” she said.

There is even a new bookshelf, handmade by Rob Jordaan and the public is asked to please donate children’s books.

Sagree Naicker, manager of Child Welfare, thanked Jeanne and her team for creating the counselling play therapy room, which is different and much more unique than the traditional therapy room, or a therapist’s office.

“When the children’s minds focus on the toys, they say stuff which comes from the heart and this helps social workers counsel abused children.”
