Abide by the law or be jailed
Over the recent long weekend more than 84 motorists were nabbed for driving under the influence of alcohol in the province.
A STERN warning has been issued by MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda to motorists who disobey road traffic laws.
Mr Kaunda visited the South Coast last Thursday in a series of multi-disciplinary operations ahead of the festive season.
His first stop was a surprise visit to Hibberdene SAPS, followed by Port Shepstone SAPS and Port Shepstone Taxi Rank which is usually inundated with traffic during the festive season.
Mr Kaunda warned motorists to refrain from reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, excessive speeding and using unroadworthy vehicles.
He told law enforcement agencies to use a zero tolerance approach to law breakers.
He also told taxi drivers to be cautious on the road and keep passengers safe on their journeys.

Commenting on the past weekend’s enforcement, Mr Kaunda voiced his satisfaction with the collective efforts demonstrated by law enforcement agencies and urged them to get tougher as Christmas approaches.
“We are impressed with the high level of visibility of enforcement agencies. We applaud the good work by all agencies including the department’s Road Traffic Inspectorate, SAPS, National Traffic Police, SANDF and emergency medical services.
