Update: What’s happening with the water in Port Edward?

A major water pipe break was the cause of the trouble.

PORT Edward residents can breathe a sigh of relief: according to a statement released by Ugu District municipality today,  normal supply has been restored to most areas.

The municipality said that over the past two weeks, it had been confronted with a major water pipe break on the Port Edward water network which culminated in the collapse of the water system in the area.

“Our technicians worked tirelessly around the clock in an effort to repair the water network but more challenges were experienced during the repair process due to the fragile nature of the Port Edward water network,” read the statement, which went on to say “it is indeed regrettable that certain areas in Port Edward were subjected to dry taps and intermittent water supply while the municipality was still working on the system”.

According to Ugu spokesman France Zama said normal water supply has been restored in most areas.  “We are  still working towards ensuring that normal supply in the high lying areas of Short Street and the Edwardian Hotel are also fully restored  today. Alternative relief water supply in the form of static water tanks has been made available in these areas.”

Plans are in place to configure and modify the Port Edward water network. These are expected to be implemented in the coming year, Mr Zama added.
